About Us

Maddie Cox Therapy

Relationships shape the way we experience the world. Whether with a partner, parent, child, friend, or colleague, we often know how we want to respond—but in moments of stress or uncertainty, our automatic patterns can take over.

Lasting change doesn’t begin with fixing yourself. It begins with understanding yourself.

At Maddie Cox Therapy, therapy isn’t simply about reducing symptoms. It’s about slowing down long enough to understand the patterns, relationships, and life experiences that shape how you think, feel, and respond.

Grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, this approach helps people better understand themselves and the relationships that influence their lives. As awareness grows, so does the ability to respond with greater clarity, flexibility, and intention. The goal isn’t to become someone different—it’s to better understand yourself so you can move through life with more intention and less automatic reaction.

Maddie Cox, LCSW

I’ve always been fascinated by people—what shapes us, why we respond the way we do, and how our relationships influence the lives we create. That curiosity continues to shape the way I approach every session today.

Before opening Maddie Cox Therapy, I worked in school settings, outpatient care, inpatient psychiatry, and private practice. Those experiences gave me the opportunity to work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating a wide range of emotional and relationship challenges.

I earned my Master’s in Social Work from The Catholic University of America and continue advanced postgraduate training at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Washington, D.C. I also serve on the Massachusetts General Hospital Leadership Council for Psychiatry, supporting efforts to advance mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and improve access to quality care.

What I enjoy most about this work is helping people see themselves differently. I’m less interested in asking, “What’s wrong?” and more interested in asking, “What makes this response make sense?” I believe that’s where meaningful change begins. When we understand the patterns shaping our lives—not to judge them, but to learn from them—we gain more freedom to respond with intention, strengthen our relationships, and move through life with greater clarity.

What Brings People to Therapy

Whatever brings you here, there’s space to begin

People come to therapy for many different reasons—anxiety, relationship challenges, parenting, family conflict, life transitions, grief, or simply a desire to understand themselves more deeply.

Whatever brings you here, therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, become more curious, and move forward with greater awareness and intention.

Collaborative Approach

You bring your experiences and insights; together we make sense of them and decide what to focus on.

Flexible & Client-Led

Your pace, your goals, your priorities. Therapy is guided by what matters most to you.

Human & Supportive

We create a space that’s safe, non-judgmental, and focused on connection—so you can explore honestly and openly.

We’re here to support you, not direct you—therapy works best when it’s a partnership.
